Yankee Homecoming welcomes: Don't Call me Shirley
Let's listen to the great tunes of Don't call me Shirley in Newburyport! About the Band: Dont Call Me Shirley plays contemporary, popular, and classic hits from the 1960s to todays favorites. DCMS is a wicked fun band that entertains music lovers with a wide range of tastes from the folk rock of Simon and Garfunkel to the hard rock of the Rolling Stones. Shirley is a party band for the local lounge or the backyard summer blow-out. Shirley came together in 2000 when Dave moved next door to Kevin. They started with some acoustic duo work and soon found Ron Chane because all of their kids were in the same class. That made for some rockin Christmas gigs in kindergarten. After adding Ron on bass the next natural progression was to grab Matt Beard who was the drummer with Kevins other band The Catapillars. Mark Luchini was added in 2006 bringing electric guitar for those stadium gigs we play. Mark fills in the missing notes with great leads and riffs not to mention another level of vocal ability which has Shirley is now known for. About the Venue: Market Square has some benches and room for dancing. So come on out and listen to a great band and spend the afternoon with some good friends. After the band is done we can walk around Newburyport, check out the other happenings in and around town. Weekly Group Run
Hello Runners! After hearing your feedback, we will start a weekly run at Maudslay State Park beginning August 4th. There is a nice X-Country Trail there that is about 2 miles long. The loop is well-marked with spray painted arrows marking the right direction and nicely groomed trails. There are some nice uphill climbs and some easy downhill coasting. It's the perfect mix! The trail is lined with giant pine trees and country views. Beginning runners or those getting back into the groove can do one loop and experienced runners can do two or more. There's no charge for this meetup, just a chance for local runners to get together and give a boost of motivation. Please invite runners of all experience levels and bring some good vibes. Best, Ryan

Focus on Shorebirds
The Newburyport/Plum Island area is one of the finest places along the East Coast for viewing shorebirds during fall migration. By early July, many of the shorebirds that have bred in northern Canada are already moving southward along the coast. We expect to see black-bellied and semipalmated plovers, greater and lesser yellowlegs, semipalmated and least sandpipers, short-billed dowitchers, willets, Hudsonian godwits, and more.
